Discuss: How did the think-aloud impact your understanding of authentic assessment in general and this task in particular? 5

Analyze: Review Standardized vs. Authentic Assessments Identify the characteristics that would make this task truly meaningful to students and promote enduring learning. 6

Discuss: How did the sample assessments impact your understanding of authentic assessments? How do these sample assessments compare to most assessments your students take? What successes or challenges have you and your students experienced in implementing authentic tasks? 7

Synthesize: What have you gleaned today about the characteristics of authentic assessments? What might those characteristics look like in your content area and grade level? Draft a resource to support you in designing and refining authentic assessments. 8

Share: As your colleagues share, annotate your own list with additional ideas you’d like to incorporate, possible opportunities for collaboration, and questions for further consideration. 9
