Introducing Belgium as an EGI partner NGI-NOAD Webinar Introducing Belgium as an EGI partner

Belgian landscape overview Two regional e-infrastructures : Vlaamse Supercomputer Centrum (VSC) for Flanders ( www.vscentrum.be ) Consortium des Equipements de Calcul Intensif (CÉCI) for Wallonia ( www.ceci-hpc.be ) Both have similarities : Organized as federations of sites managed by universities High-broadband fiber networks provided by BELNET linking sites Focus on High Performance Computing High level of integration through common facilities : Shared GPFS filesystems for distribution of users’ files and data and of software Centralized management of users’ accounts ... BEgrid : promoted by BELSPO (the Belgian Office for Science Policy) Has its own infrastructure delivering grid and cloud resources as well as support

Belgian NGI Liaisons’ goals and activities Belgian NILs : Stéphane Gérard (VUB, VSC) stephane.gerard@vub.be Dr. Olivier Devroede (VUB) olivier.devroede@vub.be Goals : Build bridges between Belgian projects/e-infrastructures and EGI Promote grid and cloud computing Increase the visibility of BEgrid Activities : New BEgrid website coming soon Update of BEgrid wiki (technical documentation for end-users) Writing new training material about grid computing Hands-on “Introduction to grid computing” planned for the end of this year Meetings planned with people from University of Ghent who are building the VSC Tier-1 level cloud about the opportunity to join the FedCloud ...

Collaboration with Belgian NOAD(s) We are constantly seeking to reach out new users, especially from outside of physics. In this context, collaboration with NOAD(s) would help us in growing our network so that we could gain in visibility. We would like to understand how we can help and start collaborating with our NOAD colleagues.
