The Holocaust Learning Outcomes: To be able to recall the events leading up to the Holocaust. To be able to explain the reasons why the Holocaust happened

Overview of the Holocaust Who did it affect? Where did it happen? When did it happen? Why did it happen?

Why did the Holocaust happen? The Holocaust is part of a bigger part in history. The Holocaust was the systematic killing of people, mainly Jewish, within concentration camps. The killing of these people was commanded by Hitler, the leader of the Nazi party.

Why did the Holocaust happen? Hitler’s Nazi party believe that German’s were the superior race and that Jewish people were inferior. Hitler wanted to purify Germany and this meant that he had to take certain kinds of people out of his country.

Who did it affect?

When did it happen? The Holocaust took place from the moment Hitler took power in 1933 to the moment World War Two ended in 1945.

Anti Jewish Laws Between 1933 to 1941, the Nazi party introduced a series a laws stopping the freedom of Jewish people

1st April 1933 – Hitler proclaims a one-day boycott of all Jewish shops. 7th April 1933 – All non German civil servants are forced to retire. 21st April 1933 – Kosher butchering and the selling of Kosher food is forbidden. 18th August 1935 – Marriage between Jews and non-Jews are forbidden. 23rd July 1938 – Jews have to carry an identification card. 27th July 1938 – Separate park benches for Jews and non-Jews.

9th November 1938 – German Jews suffer the Kristallnacht 23rd November 1938 – All Jewish businesses are closed down. 29th July 1940 – Jews may no longer have telephones. 20th July 1942 – All Jewish schools and synagogues are finally shut down. 18th September 1942 - Jews are no longer permitted to own a house or business.
