Philip II King from Macedonia (North of Greece) Made the army a year-round professional job Conquered and then united the weakened Greek City- States in 338 B.C.

Alexander the Great Was a student of Aristotle Became King at 21 – 336 B.C. Defeated the Persians Conquered the known Ancient World Built new Greek Cities from Egypt to India

Alexander the Great Alexander dreamed of creating a united state where everyone would live in world peace He tried to unite the Macedonians, the Persians, and the Greeks.

YEAR EVENT DESCRIPTION 356 BCE Birth Born in Macedonia 336 BCE Becomes King At age 21 after father’s death 334 BCE Defeats Persians Drives Persians out of Greece 331 BCE Travel and Trade Spreads Built Alexandria in Egypt Battle Defeated the entire Persian Empire 323 BCE Death Alexander became ill and died (possibly Malaria or poisoning)

After Alexander Alexander died (either Malaria or poisoning) in 323 B.C. His Empire did not survive his death; it was divided up into Kingdoms under his Generals.
