Second Grade News December Science November flew by in our second grade Classrooms! We have been very busy learning and having a great time! Thank you for your on-going support! Check out what’s happening in December… Math In Math we will continue our learning of addition and subtraction of two digit numbers. We will also work on creating story problems using mathematical facts using double digits. Our next unit will be Probability /Statistics and Graphing. Social Studies We will begin our unit on Maps and Globes. We will identify the seven continents, the five oceans, discuss the differences between Maps and Globes as well as learn parts of a map. Science This month we will be studying Magnets! We will investigate its different characteristics and its attraction to certain types of metal. Read! Read! Read! Make sure your child is reading for at least 15 minutes per day! Students can read independently, aloud to an adult, or back and forth with a partner Be an example! Children learn by example, so let your child see you read whether it be a book, newspaper, cookbook, etc. The 2nd grade continues to earn many Sammy Tickets for respectful behavior around the school! Ask your child what kinds of things their classes are doing to earn tickets!
We wish everyone a Great Holiday Season and a Very Happy New Year! Cold Weather Is Here It seems like just yesterday was the first day of Fall and now the cold weather has moved in! We will continue to have recess outdoors as long as the temperature is above freezing, so please make sure your child comes to school with a coat and is dressed appropriately for the weather. Important Dates: December 9th- PTA Meeting, 9:00 a.m. December 11th- Winter Chorus performance, 6:30 p.m. December 19- Winter/Sing-a-Long Assembly, 8:45 a.m. Winter Parties-TBA December 22- Winter Break Begins (Classes Resume on January 5) WINTER PARTIES are scheduled for Friday, December 19th at 10:30 a.m. more information to follow… The 2nd grade would also like to thank the Sycolin Creek PTA for the wonderful things they do for us and our students all year!
