Presentation transcript:

Drawing II - Multiple Self-Portrait Drawing   For this project, you should create a drawing (at least 18 x 24 inches) that includes at least two representations of yourself (although it can include more than two renderings of yourself as well). These drawings must include a drawing of yourself from direct observation; reference photos may be used for other views. The final piece should be done in graphite. Please consider overall composition and content. Craftsmanship counts. 1 – Introduce Multiple Self-Portrait Project and work on thumbnail sketches in class. Begin projects in class. 2 – Have multiple self-portrait drawings at 50% complete for in progress critique. We will work from a model in class this day. 3 – Final critique of Multiple Self-Portraits (100% complete).

Beneath our quest for likeness: a common structure! The skull is the map for placement of features. Individuality of features is more due to genetics and the cartilage / tissue arrangement of Mom and Dad.

General proportions of the face, here measured in the width of an eye – For specific information, refer to the handout Portraits: Tips on Proportion.

Following are some artists’ sketchbook pages and portrait drawings, including self portraits.

Following are some observational sketches of features – try doing your own in the sketchbook pages for features or expressions as practice for your drawing.
