Middle School Curriculum Guide Welcome Middle School Teachers! Can I teach about the Holocaust? Should I teach about the Holocaust? How can Holocaust education benefit my students?

Middle School Curriculum Guide My course standards and benchmarks don’t mention the Holocaust? Why should I teach about it? Goals for student learning in Florida schools are defined by the Florida Standards and the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards, but there is an additional source that teachers should use as well. The “Required Instruction” chapter of the Florida Statutes (F.S. 1003.42) applies to all teachers and includes a provision for Holocaust education. The law doesn’t require a separate Holocaust course, but rather seeks to infuse instruction on important Holocaust education themes throughout the curriculum as widely as possible. This gives teachers the opportunity to add depth and relevance to their lessons in a broad range of subjects. F.S. 1003.42 – Full Text

Middle School Curriculum Guide Welcome Middle School Teachers! Can I teach about the Holocaust? Should I teach about the Holocaust? How can Holocaust education benefit my students?

Middle School Curriculum Guide The history of the Holocaust (1933-1945), the systematic, planned annihilation of European Jews and other groups by Nazi Germany, a watershed event in the history of humanity, to be taught in a manner that leads to: an investigation of human behavior, an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping, and an examination of what it means to be a responsible and respectful person, for the purposes of encouraging tolerance of diversity in a pluralistic society, and for nurturing and protecting democratic values and institutions.  How can Holocaust education benefit my students?
