What is the TOEIC® Listening & Reading Test? Comes from the same organisation in the USA as the TOEFL-Test Tests listening and reading comprehension in work-related situations – receptive skills Up to C1-level CEFR (990 points maximum ) Well-known among employers - particularly suitable for people entering the job market Valid for 2 years Dr. Angela Beverley-Gilbertson, Institut für Fremdsprachen: Angela.Beverley-Gilbertson@Reutlingen-University.DE

What is special about this test? An independent external confirmation of language skills, e.g. for degree programmes without their own English courses On this occasion no charge for students and staff at Reutlingen University. Financed by International Office. Institutions usually charge approx. €100 per candidate. For whom is this test NOT suitable? English-language degree programmes or programmes with a high proportion of lectures in English International study semester – doesn’t test academic English International / non-EU students – check whether the certificate will be recognised in your country. What is the test format? Paper-and-Pencil 2 hours duration (45 mins Listening + 75 mins Reading, 100 questions in each part, no break) Approx. 30 mins for organisational matters 200 multiple choice questions http://yourenglishtest.com/news/16_step_2_sample_questions Dr. Angela Beverley-Gilbertson, Institut für Fremdsprachen: Angela.Beverley-Gilbertson@Reutlingen-University.DE

How can I prepare for the test? No time to take an English course! You can only get to know the test format – and practise! Lots of material online, eg: https://www.ets.org/toeic/test_takers/listening_reading/prepare/products See also handout with links! A small number of practice books is available in the IfF. How do I sign up? Online from Tuesday, 7 March, 9:00 am: https://www.reutlingen-university.de/en/international/foreign-languages/english-language-courses/ ONLY 25 places – first come, first served! If you change your mind and wish to withdraw, please inform the IfF. Your name will be removed from the list so someone else can take your place. Important dates May 6: Information meeting May 7: Registration from 9 am– via IfF / Relax Preparatory Workshops: May 10, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm, rm. 20-220 May 16, 9:45 – 11:15 am, rm. 5-015 May 23, 9:45 -11:15 am, rm. 5-014 Friday, June 7, 2019, 2 pm – approx. 4:30 pm: Test. What do I have to do on the day of the test? Bring your university ID card. Bring pencils (HB oder B), eraser, sharpener with you. No ballpoint pens or mechanical pencils! Nothing else on the desk! No mobile phones, smart watches, dictionaries… No drinks / snacks / lucky charms… Answer all questions – incorrect answers will not be penalised. What happens after the test? Papers are graded centrally in Berlin Results generally available after around 7-10 working days. IfF will inform you when the results arrive. Candidates receive an Official Score Report with separate results for each part together with an explanatory chart.
