ATOMIC STRUCTURE & BONDING LABS C.Leverette2019

LAB 1 3-D ATOM Using a Periodic Table, pick an element that you would like to build. Using the clay and the toothpicks provided build a 3-D representation of your element. Make sure to color code your model by using a different color for your Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons. Please label each part. Please choose one of these elements: H, He, Li, Be, B, C, N, O, F, Ne C.Leverette2019

LAB 2 3-D ISOTOPES After building your 3-D element, work with your lab partner to build the isotopes of your element. Build two isotopes of your element and again color code each subatomic particle making sure to match your original element. C.Leverette2019

LAB 3 Elements, Compounds, Molecules, and Mixtures Divide your paper into four sections. Label the sections Elements, Molecules, Compounds, and Mixtures.  In this activity, the different colored clay represent atoms and toothpicks represent bonds between atoms. Each element will be color coded. Choose a color that represents each element: Oxygen is orange, Carbon is green. Chlorine is yellow. Hydrogen is pink. Sodium (Na) is also green or use another color if available. These colors should be represented correctly in each section. Using the materials provided, recreate the picture that you see on left and answer the lab questions. Please utilize the lab notes provided to help you complete the project. C.Leverette2019

LAB 4 Greenhouse Effect Molecules Read the article “Greenhouse Gases” and complete the “Close Reading” assignment. https://www.acs.org/content/acs/e n/climatescience/greenhousegases.h tml Using the materials provided, create a poster displaying the molecule structures of the five Greenhouse Gases.
