Literature: Tuesday, December 4, 2018 Handouts: * Short Story Elements for “Zlateh the Goat” Homework: * Read AR book & record progress on chart * STUDY for Lit Test #4, Informational Reading Test is next Wednesday, Dec. 12 3. Assignments Due: * None

Today’s Goal: Read and analyze a story related to Hanukkah. Outcomes: Analyze literary elements in the short story, “Zlateh the Goat” (Lit textbook pp. 128 – 134) Identify two examples of personification. Identify examples of alliteration. Name two types of conflict in “Zlateh the Goat.”

Starter #1: Think of a time when you or someone close to you experienced one of these situations: 1) You or someone you know had to part with a pet that you loved. 2) You were suddenly caught outside in bad weather with no immediate way to escape it.   What came to your mind when you read those questions? Today we will read about someone who wrestled with both those situations.

Starter #2: Let’s look at today’s handout. Can you fill in any of the blanks?   Note: The term, “e.g.” stands for “example.” Don’t fill in any of the examples yet. We will find examples later when we read, “Zlateh the Goat.”    Keep this handout on your desk. Whenever you think we have found an example of these literary elements from “Zlateh,” raise your hand and say, “Timeout!” Then share with the class the example you found. Turn in your Lit book to p. 128.
