Phoenix, AZ. Western Region March 2019 – Starting, Sustaining, and Growing Units(NEW). Salt Lake City, UT. Western Region August 2019 – Applying Technology in Unit Service. Indianapolis, IN. Central Region October 2019 – Delivering a Great Commissioners College. Houston, TX. Southern Region November 2019 – Recruiting and Engaging Commissioners. Philadelphia, PA. NE Region National Conferences – 2018 conferences at PTC cancelled due to fires. Successfully delivered conference at Florida Sea Base, Bags are packed for PTC 2019 and planning underway for FSB 2020. 1 at Florida Seabase in January 2019 6 at PTC in June 2019 1 at Florida Sea Base in January 2020 New Initiatives Developed of a new approach to initial training on technology that provided commissioners with better, more timely information on Commissioner Tools upgrade. Looking Forward: Continue national conferences and impact sessions Explore new initiatives that will ensure commissioners have the most current information available and that curriculum updates are done timely.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS ACHIEVEMENTS Build a Diverse Social Media Team Develop an Operational Plan for Social Media Explore Sources of Content for Social Media Execute a Marketing Plan for National Conferences and Impact Sessions New Initiatives Build A Diverse Social Media Team Recruited a diverse team of national social media experts that will create and implement a National Commissioner social media operational plan Experts from existing social media groups and other scouting groups were recruited. We now have four team members Their knowledge and expertise has been appreciated and continues to grow as we apply their backgrounds to the issues that arise on social media. Develop an Operational Plan for Social Media Created a social media calendar Identify when topics are relevant to scouters Space out content so that each topic can be highlighted Developed social media: Rules Moderator guidelines Voice/Tone Explore Sources of Content for Social Media Identified and vetted sources of information for use on social media Developed relationship with Effie Delimarkos and members of the National BSA Communications Team Subject Matter Experts were identified Execute a Marketing Plan Successfully implemented a Marketing Plan for the National Commissioner Conferences Developed emails using targeted messages to commissioners Coordinated Social Media posts with emails Successfully implemented a Marketing Plan for the National Impact Sessions Commissioner Open Rate is 75% better than BSA Average Commissioner Click Rate is 31% higher than BSA Average Commissioner Unsubscribe Rate is 33% less than BSA Average Recruited an editor with a marketing background to help on content New Initiatives Collaborated with Rick Hillenbrand and John Cherry to create a communications plan around the update to Commissioner Tools that launched in April. RECRUITING & RETENTION ACHIEVEMENTS Establish Guidelines for Making a Compelling Ask Establish Process to Identify and Transfer LDS Commissioners Develop Reference Materials on Why People Volunteer Explore 18-21 Year Old Youth Supporting Unit Service Challenge Administrative Commissioners to Increase Local Corps Establish Guidelines for Making a Compelling Ask. Applied “Assess-Plan-Act” process to recruiting commissioners Incorporating “commissioner fit” concept in training and communications Incorporating “new breed volunteer” concept in training and communications Establish Process To Identify And Transfer LDS Commissioners. Participating in nationwide conference calls hosted by Mark Francis, Director LDS-BSA Relationships WR and Area conference calls (WR is most effected by this transition) Key councils most effected are having focused conversations regarding this transition. It is too early to know just how many LDS families will transition to new or established community units. This will have bearing on how many commissioners will transfer to these units Develop Reference Materials on Why People Volunteer. Materials developed and used during 2018 NAM Spark Session, Phoenix Impact Session, NER webinar and local council commissioner college Concepts incorporated in various commissioner communications (newsletters, conference calls, etc.) Explore 18 – 21 Year Old Youth Supporting Unit Service Monitoring concept testing in limited number of councils Not a solution to need to increase unit commissioners Possible limited application to support functions Registration issues require resolution Challenge Administrative Commissioners to Increase Local Corps Communicated through newsletter articles, Impact Session, newsletter, other commissioner communication Looking Forward Develop consistent messaging on commissioner recruiting Including more development of the recruiting process and steps needed to write an effective recruiting plan Look at the ‘train-the trainer’ model as a delivery method Utilize scheduled conferences and colleges Expand access to new reference materials Improve content of material regarding recruitment-engagement-retention page of our national website

(note that "diversity" included representation of all regions and multiple unit service roles and responsibilities, in addition to greater cultural diversity) Build Relationships Developed and cultivated relationships: Web Support Team for Commissioner Website Strategic Performance and Information Technology for data to support analytics Pearson for Commissioner Newsletter development Volunteers and Professionals Plan and Ensure Delivery of The Commissioner Newsletter Published 3 issues of the Commissioner on schedule Work with the Service Team to update and expand the Manual Modules As information changes or new information emerges, update the Commissioner Manual Modules on the website. Update the Commissioner Website with new information from the Team and BSA Updated the Unit Service and Commissioner Tools site to reflect the updated Commissioner Tools. The information was available to commissioners within hours of the release. Several pages have had updates, adding pictures and new information Look for opportunities to add commissioner merchandise Commissioner merchandise was added to Scoutshop.org in the 4th quarter of 2018 Looking Forward Expand The Commissioner Newsletter to 4 issues beginning in August 2019 New analytics group will evaluate, develop and process needed analytics
