First … Do exercise 1 on the worksheet: label the diagram. 2. Talk in your group and discuss how wind power generates electricity.

Next 3. Look at the following picture slides and check your answers to exercise 1.

The energy in wind can be harnessed to produce electricity.

As wind blows past the blades,

sensors detect the direction of the wind and turn the blades to face it.

The blades rotate around a hub

which is connected to a shaft inside the head.

The rotating shaft powers a generator to convert the energy into electricity.

Electricity is sent via pylons and cables to homes around the country.

Now … Do exercise 2 on the worksheet: complete the gaps. 5. Do exercise 3 on the worksheet: write the number of the correct sentence next to each picture.
