Birth of Sir Francis Drake Sir Francis Drake was born in 1545. He was born in the small town of Tavistock. Tavistock is in the country of Devon, England, which is on the Southeast corner of England.

About Sir Francis Drake Sir Francis Drake was a Vice Admiral in the English Navy. He was second in command of the English fleet during the Spanish Armada. He was also a privateer, navigator, slaver and politician. He was awarded a knighthood from Elizabeth I of England.

Sir Francis Drake’s Voyage Around the World Sir Francis Drake was the second man to circumnavigate the world. He set sail with four ships and one-hundred and forty-six men. It took Drake three years to successfully circumnavigate the world.

The Death of Sir Francis Drake Sir Francis Drake died on January 28, 1596. He died of Dysentery, which is an internal problem that causes severe sickness. The crew members buried him at sea.
