Ionic Compounds and Their Properties An ionic bond is an attraction between oppositely charged ions. Ionic compounds tend to : Be brittle solids at room temperature Have high melting points Be highly soluble in water Conduct electricity in solution

Covalent Compounds and Their Properties Covalent compounds are formed when atoms share electrons. Properties of covalent compounds: Some are not soluble in water Low melting points Some do not form ions in water and do not conduct electricity
