MCS 2160 Presentation Overview

Score The MCS 2160 Presentation will count as 20% towards your final grade. It is group work. Everyone should contribute. If some members of your group are not contributing please tell me as soon as possible.

Topics Choose one topic for your presentation: The Language of Star Wars – The Force Awakens The Language of The Legend of Zelda The Language of Justin Bieber’s Music The Language of Game Of Thrones The Language of Twitter

Include You should focus on the language only Ideas: -Compare it to more formal language -How is this language original? -Why is the language written in this way? -What influence has this type of language had? -Give examples

Score breakdown There will be 2 parts to your score of 20: /10 Relevance to the chosen title -How much information relevant to the chosen title is there? -Is there any new information in there? -Does it recap parts of the course? /10 Presentation skills How professional you are as a group? How interesting your presentation is? Do you read like a robot or speak with emphasis? Did you prepare? How good is your timekeeping? How are the slides you prepared (if any)?

Time limit The presentation should last 10 minutes. We have many groups to present, so you must be ready to present in your time slot. When 10 minutes has nearly run out I will warn you that you only gave a minute to finish. You must then conclude.

Failure to present If you fail to present, you will get 0.

Tips Practice the presentation beforehand Have one member of the group control the time Introduce yourselves Make sure all your slides are on the computer BEFORE the presentations start Keep any text on the slides to a minimum (just key points) DO NOT read off paper. That will affect your grade. Key points on paper are acceptable Keep any videos to a minimum (a couple of minutes maximum) and ask yourself ... are they really necessary?
