Communication skills are a core competency of Communication and Facilitation

What is Facilitation and why is it a critical part of the role for a Business Analyst? It is the action or process of making something easier to accomplish.

 Why is communication also a critically important tool for a Business Analyst?  Communication is the act of a sender conveying information to a receiver in a method which delivers the meaning the sender intended

Verbal Communication  Spoken words to convey information

Non Verbal Communication  Facial Expressions, body movements

 Written Communication is fundamentally important as documentation is a requirement of any business analysis engagement and is necessary for traceability.

 Listening Skills – effective listening skills are essential

Interaction skills – relate to stakeholders

Leadership and Influencing - Be a guide to stakeholders

Teamwork – working well with others

Negotiation and Conflict Resolution  Important when faced with many opposing ideas

Teaching – helps to communicate ideas

There we have the overview of communication skills and how they relate to Facilitation and communication

Communication and facilitation the foundation of a great Business Analyst

 In conclusion facilitation and communication are the driving forces behind business analysis work.  It enables elicitation of information and collaboration of the team.  Again the ultimate goal of the Business Analyst is to communicate requirements to the necessary stakeholders and facilitate teamwork and reach a common goal.  Until that goal is accomplished the work of a Business Analyst is not done.  Thank you all for your time, I hope you have gained some insightful knowledge here today.
