Activator: Take out your packet Complete pg. 35: plot and connect the points and name the shape.

So I can... Today I will be able to…. use absolute value to determine distance between integers (neg. or pos. #) on the coordinate plane in order to find side lengths of polygons (shapes). So I can... Draw polygons in the coordinate plane when given coordinates for the vertices. I will also be able to find the area enclosed by a polygon by composing or decomposing using polygons with known area formulas. I will know I got it when I can complete at least 4 out of the 6 stations with at least 80% accuracy with a partner or by myself. 6.G.A.3

Language Objective By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use the language domains of reading and writing to communicate the academic math language of polygons. They will verbally communicate and use absolute value to write/determine distance between integers (neg. or pos. #) on the coordinate plane in order to find side lengths of polygons (shapes). They will draw polygons in the coordinate plane when given coordinates for the vertices. They will also be able to find the area enclosed by a polygon by composing or decomposing using polygons with known area formulas. They will show their understanding by complete at least 4 out of the 6 stations with at least 80% accuracy with a partner or by myself. Academic math Language Vocabulary: integers, coordinate planes, polygons, compose, decompose
