Irregular Plural Nouns Ms. Taylor 2nd Grade 770-578-7200 jessica.taylor2@cobbk12.org Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of September 18, 2017 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Story Structure We will continue to describe the overall structure of a story. We will also use illustrations as well as words to understand the characters, setting, and plot of a story. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the September calendar Math: Money We will learn the value of a quarter, dime, nickel, and penny. We will count sets of coins. Math IXL Play “Learn to Count Money” on the class links page Writing: Personal Narratives We will use all that we have learned about small moments to edit, revise, and begin new personal narratives. Spelling Choose an activity from the September Spellers Choice Activities Social Studies: Civic/ Government Understandings We will define the concept of government and the need for rules and laws. We will also identify elected officials of the executive branch and where they work. Reading Read for 20 minutes (every day) - picture walk the story and tell what is happening before reading the story Raz Kids S.S./ Science Talk with your family about why we have rules and laws Class Blog: http://www.cobblearning.net/taylor2/ Spelling & Word Study Language Skill Spelling Pattern Mark Your Calendar Vowel Teams The vowel teams ai and ay make the sound of long a. The vowel team ai generally comes in the middle of the syllable with a consonant sound after it. The vowel team ay generally comes at the end of a syllable. Ex: train – say Irregular Plural Nouns We will form and use frequently occurring plural nouns when speaking or writing. Ex: feet, teeth, mice September 19 – Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night 5 PM September 22 – STEM Day – Caine’s Arcade September 25-29 – Fall Break – No School Weekly Words We will not have weekly words this week.
