Formed March 17, 1856, five years before Kansas’ statehood. Freemasonry is the oldest, largest and most widely recognized fraternal organization in the world Kansas Freemasonry has more than 15,000 Kansas Masons and 200 Lodges.

The Kansas Masonic Foundation was founded in 1966 to encourage philanthropy from Kansas Masons. Over the 50 years of its existence, the Foundation, which is the charitable arm of The Grand Lodge of Kansas, has given thousands of scholarships and millions of dollars to deserving students in Kansas.

SCHOLARSHIPS In 2019, Kansas Masons awarded 247 scholarships to Kansas students totaling more than $200,000. Since 2014, Kansas Masons have awarded over $1,400,000 in scholarships.

The scholarships, which range from $500 to $5,000, are awarded to graduating high school seniors and also students already attending two- and four-year universities and colleges, including vocational and technical schools, throughout the state.

LEGACY SCHOLARSHIPS $1,000 Scholarship to any U.S. University that has Accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission. OR $500 Scholarship to any of the Technical or Community/Junior Colleges in Kansas that has been identified by KMF.

CRITERIA Must be one of the following: LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP A Kansas Mason Son or Daughter of a Kansas Mason Current member of DeMolay International for at least 2 years Current member of International Order of the Rainbow for Girls for at least 2 years Current member of Job’s Daughters International for at least 2 years Enrolled in 12 Credit Hours Per Semester Demonstrate Financial Need

CYNTHIA RUTH RUSSELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES $5,000 in scholarship funds available to one or more of the following schools: Emporia State University Fort Hays State University Kansas State University Pittsburg State University University of Kansas Washburn University Wichita State University The Scholarship specifically goes to support students who have a medically approved disability as defined by the World Health Organization.

CRITERIA CYNTHIA RUTH RUSSELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR MEDICALLY APPROVED DISABILITIES Kansas Resident Living with a disability (as defined by the World Health Organization) Must be attending one of the seven identified Kansas Universities Enrolled in 12 Credit Hours per Semester Demonstrate Financial Need

The Masonic Grand Lodge of Kansas gives high school juniors and seniors looking to earn some cash another opportunity to do so with an essay contest. The contest is for juniors and seniors in tax-supported public high schools of Kansas.

A total of $12,000 will be awarded in prizes ESSAY CONTEST Winners of the contest will compete for state scholarships, and they must enroll in a Kansas tax-supported accredited University, College, Community College, or Vocational-Technical school in order to receive the award. The scholarship money is then forwarded to the student’s Kansas school of choice upon receipt of confirmation of their enrollment. A total of $12,000 will be awarded in prizes First Place $4,000 Second Place $3,000 Third Place $2,000 Fourth Place $1,000 Four (4) Honorable Mentions will also be awarded for $500 each.

ESSAY CONTEST All Juniors and Seniors are eligible and urged to contact a local Masonic Lodge member for details. Essays cannot exceed 500 words, and only winners on the local level are eligible to represent a lodge at the state level. Essays must be submitted on or before Nov. 1 to be judged for the statewide competition.

With your help we can achieve that goal. This program was developed to recognize a teacher and/or student for something exemplary; a random act or careers worthy of achievement. Last year we recognized over 200 teachers and students statewide and we have set a goal of one teacher and student in every school in Kansas. With your help we can achieve that goal.

The 15,000 Kansas Masons, 200 Kansas Masonic Lodges, The Grand Lodge of Kansas AF&AM and the Kansas Masonic Foundation have generously supported Kansas Public Schools throughout our rich history and today fund more than $500,000 annually in statewide educational programs. Our commitment to Kansas Schools and our kids is unparalleled.

This year we have partnered with the Kansas Masonic Literacy Center at Emporia State University to recognize students who participate in the Kansas Mason’s Discovery Book Club and who improve their reading level by 100 or more Lexile Levels with an Exemplary Student Award.

On April 30, 2019, 56 High School teams and 11 College teams participated in the state wide competition in Manhattan. Sixteen high school teams and six college teams were awarded $75,000. In 2019, teams competed in divisions; Existing Business, Agriculture, Technology and an Open division for both high school and college teams. All teams will participate in a mock board room. 48 hours prior to the competition teams will receive questions from the KEC Judges which will be designed to reflect real world challenges and decision making requirements of entrepreneurs. Mock board room presentations will be 15 minutes.

HOW TO QUALIFY Local Event Winner: The top team from each NetWork Kansas YEC Series or Kansas Masons sanctioned event automatically qualifies. If the top team is not able to participate, the event organizers may send an alternate team to the KEC. Teams must submit a three-page executive summary of their concept through the KEC website by end of March 2020. Open Review Entry: Up to 15 teams may also be selected for the KEC through the Executive Summary Open Review. Kansas Masonic All State High School Marching Band Camp will be held in the first week of June at the site of the Bowl. Annually, a total of 180 to 250 of Kansas high school musicians are showcased in this event that includes pre-game and halftime performances.

The band also performs before the Shrine Bowl Banquet on the Friday night prior to the game and at a downtown parade the next morning. Camp fees are sponsored by Masonic Lodges and Affiliated Organizations throughout the state. Any proceeds are used to support the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Outstanding Musician Award ($1,500) to Every year, the Kansas Shrine Bowl offers an Outstanding Musician Award ($1,500) to one high school senior or incoming college freshman who attended camp.
