Classification The classification system of living things is still changing. The current system is called SYSTEMATICS Systematic uses all the evidence that is know about organisms to classify them

Classification Hierarchy

Domains There are now three different domains:

6 Kingdoms

Monera Kingdom

Major Groupings of Organisms One way to classify organisms is according to their place within the kingdoms. Scientists also find it helpful to look at how organisms can be grouped together according to other general characteristics.

Dichotomous Key An identification key can help you identify different types of organisms. A special key, called a dichotomous key, helps you identify organisms by presenting you with a series of choices. The choices describe characteristics of the organism you’re identifying. Your choices eventually lead you to the identity of the species.
