Homework: * Read an AR book 20 – 30 minutes daily & record on chart * STUDY for Lit Test #1: Intro to Literature; test is tomorrow. Today’s Goal: Learn to analyze a science fiction short story as you read “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury (see online PDF on my website). Outcomes: Define “setting” and explain why it is a key element in today’s story. Make inferences while you read “All Summer in a Day.” Explain the significance of the title in today’s short story. Analyze the conflicts that drive the plot in “All Summer in a Day.”

Starter: What two things are always included in the setting? Setting is important to help us understand the context of a story, but in some stories, it is a key element of the plot. In today’s story, the whole story line (or plot) relates to the setting. Today’s story is one of the five types of fiction portrayed on our side board. The author is Ray Bradbury, who passed away five years ago. Your parents and grandparents would recognize his name. Some of the stories he wrote were turned into episodes for TV shows. When we start reading today’s story, raise your hand if you can figure out which genre of fiction this is. Turn to your handout and let’s look at . . . Reading Skills Vocab
