Part 9:Surface Conditions - Fills

Objective Of This Lesson Basic discussion of creation and use of fills and hatch patterns.

Overview Fills are used on an enclosed area or selected object(s). Fills are created with solid fill, a gradient fill or a repetitive hatch pattern. Use of gradient fills to create 3D effect. Use of angled lines to indicate cross-section of a mechanical part.

Fills You can fill existing objects or enclosed areas with solid color fills, hatch patterns or gradients, or you can create new hatch objects.

Fills/Hatch Patterns Can choose from a variety of ways to create patterns (dependent on propriety program used): Predefined hatch patterns. Choose from over 70 ANSI, ISO, and other industry-standard hatch patterns. User-defined hatch patterns. Define your own hatch patterns based on the current linetype, with spacing, angle, color, and other properties you specify.

Fills/Hatch Patterns (cont.) Custom hatch patterns. You can add custom hatch pattern definitions. Solid fill. Fill an area with a solid color. Gradient fill. Fill an enclosed area with a color gradient. A gradient fill can be displayed as a tint (a color mixed with white), a shade (a color mixed with black), or a smooth transition between two or more colors. See below.
