Equivalent Ratios and Rates Objective: Learn to find Equivalent Ratios and Rates.

Equivalent Ratios and Rates You can find equivalent ratios and rates the same way as you find equivalent fractions- by multiplying or dividing both parts of the ratio or rate by the same number. For example: 6 cookies 2 people 6 cookies x2 = 12 cookies 2 people x2 = 4 people 6 cookies ÷2 = 3 cookies 2 people ÷ 2 = 1 person

Example: Find 2 ratios equivalent to 9 15 Steps: Multiply or divide the numerator and denominator by the same number. 9 × 2 = 18 15 × 2 = 30 9 ÷ 3 = 3 15 ÷ 3 = 5 3 and 18 are equivalent to 9 5 30 15

Your Examples: Find 2 rates equivalent ratios and rates Your Examples: Find 2 rates equivalent ratios and rates. (one bigger and smaller) 1. Find 2 rates equivalent to 400 sit-ups 5 minutes 2. Find 2 ratios equivalent to 8 24

Homework: Multiply and divide to find 2 equivalent rates or equivalent ratios for each exercise. 1. 24 dogs 4 houses 2. 14 miles 2 hours 3. 100 students 6 classes 4. 22 brownies 2 packets 5. 25 fishes 5 bowls 6. 27 45 7. 36 54 8. 40 75 9. 64 80 10. 12 15
