Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist. He was born at Shrewsbury on the 12th of February, 1809.

Charles Darwin was the first to present the idea of evolution by natural selection, the way in which species of living things change. He was looking for the causes of change. The cause was, he thought in the world of nature there was always a struggle for life. He described this process as evolution through natural selection <<owing to struggle>>, <<owing to a better chance to survive>>.

On the 14th of May, 1856, Darwin started write his famous book Natural Selection. The book was published on the 24th of November, 1985. It was called The Origin of Species. The whole edition, 1250 copies, was sold out on the first day.

In America seldom had a book of science found a public more eager to read it, 3000 more copies were printed, then 5000 copies and another 500 copies, and again a revised edition of the book appeared in the summer of that same year, The Origin of Species was a bestseller.

He died on the 19th of April, 1882 He died on the 19th of April, 1882. Four of his sons became known scientists.
