National Environmental Information Network (NEIN) 1 An integrated database for reliable, comparable and available environmental information. An information exchange network at national level. A flexible tool for public access to environmental information. A motivation mechanism for the production of all needed information from all involved parties. A tool for supporting policy making and application. The national link to EIONET.

National Environmental Information Network (NEIN) 2 National wide network (FrameRelay – HellasPac II). Eleven (11) nodes in 5 Regions: Attica, Central Macedonia, Hpeiros, Crete, Northern Aegean. Eleven (11) environmental topic areas. Distributed architecture, Client – server model. Database applications (ORACLE). Geographic Information Systems (ArcView/ArcInfo). Possibility for data presentation on the INTERNET.

NEIN – Topic Areas Air Quality Water Nature Solid and Dangerous Waste Industry Acoustic Environment and Noise External flaring & Car Fuels Environmental impact studies Large scale accidents Environmental legislation

NEIN – Water Scope: Water quality management and decision making, including conformance to European Water Specifications. Content: Surface Water Ground Water Bathing Water Trans-boundary Water Drinking Water Sea pollution monitoring (MED-POL Programme).

NEIN –Water / Next steps Completely automate data input, elaboration and output for all water categories. Make data available on the Internet for the general public (queries and reports). Integrate data exchange modules with regard to REPORTNET data formats for water (Data Dictionary). Maintain links with other relevant networks and services (National Bank of Hydrology and Meteorology)
