New Chairs in 2019 Jason Bates was the interim Buffalo Section Chair. Michael Chirico was elected in 2019 Buffalo, Syracuse, and Ithaca will be holding elections for new Section Officers.

Recruitment and Retention Goals through Feb 2019 Binghamton: renewal: 85.4%, Buffalo: renewal: 86.5%, Ithaca: renewal: 88.5%, Rochester: renewal: 92.3% #3 in R1 Syracuse: renewal: 90.4% Binghamton: recruitment: 34.5%, Buffalo: recruitment: 50.9%, #4 in R1 Ithaca: recruitment: 73.8% #2 in R1 Rochester: recruitment: 45.8%, Syracuse: recruitment: 41.1%

Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Western New York Chapter includes all 5 Sections in the Western Area Extraordinary success this year!

The IEEE Binghamton Section in partnership with Dynamic Discs and the Greater Binghamton Disc Golf Club sponsored a Disc Golf Trilogy Challenge. It was advertised across the Western Area. Pictures from Vince Socci – posted on Facebook.

Rochester Section: Buffalo Section: Joint Chapters Meeting on April 7th (six presentations, keynote, and dinner) Signal Processing Society hosted a sold-out workshop. Syracuse Section Ithaca Section Recent Events: Central New York Engineering Expo PES chapter meeting on “Energy Storage Systems” COMSOC chapter meeting on “Machine learning and deep learning in cognitive radio networks” Section presentation (as part of the Fellow’s Night banquet) on “Listening to the universe with Gravitational Waves” Ithaca Section Recent Events: DroneFest Event Cornell Chess Tour Vector magnetics Presentation Extremely exciting: Alex Specker reported that they raised the $12500 for Phase 1 to buy the solar lanterns with $1000 going direct to the section from the Ithaca Section.The recent email from Antonio to IEEE Region 9 members, and the article in the Members Benefit Bulletin and Inside IEEE for staff made a good impact. To date, we have raised a total of $16635 plus the $1000 from Ithaca Section. We still have a ways to go to get to our $37500 goal.
