STT215 Course Overview Collecting Data Exploring Data Probability Intro. Inference Comparing Variables Relationships between Variables Means Proportions Regression Contingency Tables

STT215 Learning Outcome Describe the variability inherent in univariate and bivariate data in numerical, graphical and written form. Explain the role randomization plays in designed experiments and in standard sampling methods. Compute and interpret probabilities of events in everyday random phenomena and of common sampling distributions. Compute and interpret confidence intervals in one-sample and two- sample cases. Construct hypotheses testing in one-sample and two-sample cases, and interpret the results utilizing p-values to draw statistical/non- statistical conclusions.

STT215 Learning Outcome We covered the most fundamental backgrounds for Probability and Statistics. You have solid foundation on Statistics and Probability. You are well prepared for any advanced graduate level statistics/probability courses. You are ready to work alone on statistical data analysis and scientific hypothesis testing. STT215

Summary to STT215 class It is a fundamental and useful class. Steep learning curve. Reasoning makes it challenging. Twisted with algebra. It has its realm of notations and ideas, which are totally different from most Mathematical courses. Critical thinking is challenging! Logical thinking is even challenging! STT215

Review Grading from syllabus: http://people. uncw STT215

STT215 Final Exam Final Exam: it is cumulative. STT215-010: Thursday, May 9, 2019, 3:00 – 6:00 pm. OS 2005. STT215-011: Tuesday, May 7, 2019, 3:00 – 6:00 pm. OS 2005. Material: Chapter 1-10.2 covered in class. Suggestion: Review Test 1, 2, 3, & HW/Quiz, & class PPTs. Life-saver: Modified AP-Statistics formula sheet. Don’t write on it. Bring it to the Final Exam.

STT215 Bonus Bonus1: If you can get higher score in the final exam, I will replace the lowest grade with final exam grade. E.g: Test3=70, Final=80  New Test3 score: max(70, 80) =80. Bonus2: In-class Exercise will be used to replace the lowest HW grade. STT215

Importance to IDEA IDEA is best single measure of student perception of teaching. Give valid measure of characteristics of effective teaching. Important documentation for faculty’s reappointment, promotion, tenure, or post-tenure-review recommendation. Are my responses confidential? Yes, evaluation results are confidential to the faculty member.   Why am I still receiving email messages? You will continue to receive reminder email messages until you have completed surveys for all of your courses. STT215
