Music Appreciation Mrs. Shores Room 105

Experience/Education 19 years teaching middle school Bachelor of Science in Biology Masters in Educational Leadership Credentials: Single Subject Teaching Credential: Biology Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential: K-6 Tier 1 Administrative: Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Supplemental in Music due to experience and course work taken. 7/1/2019

Why Music? I started teaching a 6th grade chorus class for several years. Since we went from two full time music teachers to only one. It’s hard to find enough students who actually want to sing, so I created this class: Music Appreciation (for all students).

Our Procedures Students bring a notebook with them every day. A one subject spiral notebook (approximately 70 pages). Bring a pencil and/or pen every day. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what they missed and make it up (when you were absent from class). Only a few notes are taken each day, then we will watch a video related to that genre.

Academic Grade: Notebook/notes = 25% Quizzes = 25% Collages/Reports = 25% Participation = 25% Total = 100%

Genres of Popular Music We will be learning about (about 2 weeks each): Classical Music Jazz Rock Latin Musicals If time: Country Electronic Hip/Hop

First Progress Report: Friday, September 14, 2018 The school sends home progress reports every five weeks. Not a final grade until 1o week. The most updated grade is in the detailed report on Schoology. Lowest Quiz score is dropped and extra credit will be given only in the last five weeks. 7/1/2019

Schoology The Schoology website via LAUSD is for grades, homework and assignments. Parents can get a Passport Account and access grades on Schoology from there. Both student and parent need to have their own accounts. The counseling office will provide support.

Curriculum PortolaMS.org Click on Teacher and Staff Scroll to Ms. B. Shores Click on the General Music Tab Power Point can be downloaded from there.

Supply List The supply list was sent home the second day of school. Students are required to have: One spiral notebook or composition book (70 pages) Pencil and Pen (s) Highlighters Folder Suggested supplies include: Colored Pencils Ear buds for online assignments

Communications Emailing me directly is preferred: blossom.shores@lausd.net I can’t reply to the emails sent from Schoology or from PortolaMS.org so it will take a bit longer to get back to you. A phone call even longer.

Email is the best way to contact me. Any time. Further Questions? Email is the best way to contact me. Any time.
