A Game Treatment By: Michael Alff Race Bots A Game Treatment By: Michael Alff

Game Story The year is 2199. You are Roid, a promising young droid out to prove yourself. After several orbits of isolated practice, you finally qualified as the youngest ever droid to race in the Plas-Circuit Races. The first race begins at the 487th clock cycle of the planets 51st rotation of the 2199th orbit around the sun. By winning consecutive gold metals, Roid wins the Bolt Cup. Time to spill Oil!!!

Appearance Complete 3D immersive world Race Tracks Fantasy/cartoon feel to the environment Natural Environment as Primary design theme Technology is secondary theme Race Tracks More or less circular Standard path to complete a lap outlined by rough terrain that slows velocity Contains several obstacles Boost patches Speed reducing patches Off limits areas Each track follows a generic level theme. Third Person Racing game Self adjusting camera behind player

Appearance Interface Player HP Left Weapon Equipped Lap Position / Radar Laps Complete Time Crosshairs / Targeting Mechanism Player Humanoid looking robot Pilots a racer (looks as if sitting inside a go-kart) CPU Racers are similar in general with different color / detail to define uniqueness.

Player Roles & Actions 3 Unique Racers Types Tank Hovercraft Jet Kart Highest HP Tight Steering Slow attack rate / High Dmg per hit Long range attack (single shot gun) Hovercraft Medium HP Loose Steering Medium attack rate / medium Dmg per hit Melee attack range (laser lance) Jet Kart Medium Steering Fast attack rate / low Dmg per hit Medium attack range (machine gun)

Player Roles & Actions Limited Weapon use that recharges with non-use. Limited turbo / evade use that recharges with non-use. 8 racers per race (up to __ humans ???) Same or Mixed units Non-Human Races fill in rest of 8 racers First to complete 3 laps wins race 1st Place is 8 points 2nd Place is 5 points 3rd Place is 3 points Most points after 3 races wins level and gets trophy Blow up other racers to slow them down Temporarily stalled Recharge weapons & turbo/evade

Player Roles & Actions Evade other races attacking player Collect Track Power Up’s Temporary heightened velocity HP boost Weapon Power Up’s Controls Accelerate Decelerate Fire Weapon Turbo / Evade Game pad to steer Horn Button (Generates a sound for comic value)

Strategies & Motivations Designed for game pad controller Similar to games such as Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, etc Different racer types allow different terrain reactions Ex. hovercraft over water Ex. paths only accessible by Jet Kart Paper, rock, scissor effect with racers No single best strategy All racer types have advantages and disadvantages Both a race and shooter game

Level Summary / Story Progression 4 uniquely themed levels (1 level for sure, others if time permits) 3 tracks per level Level Themes Robot City Volcanic Island Desert Plains Ocean Level Most points for all track of a level beats level Subsequent levels locked until previous mastered Trophy as reward with cut-scene for award ceremony Completing all levels yields the Bolt Cup and unlocks bonus battle mode

Development Specification Hardware Graphics Accelerated PC (Modern Standard) Game Pad Controllers (USB / PS / PS2) USB to PS/PS2 Converters Software Visual C++? Unreal Tournament 2004 Editors Edition Maya / 3D Studio? Notepad ++ Algorithm Style AI for CPU racers (2 parts) Race AI - Search for waypoints that allow lap completion Attack AI – Fire on opposing racers Simple Searching Algorithms (Depth First, Beam First, Breadth First, Hill Climbing, A*, Best First, etc)
