Electron Configuration Finding Grandma’s Element

Do Now: Write the orbital notations for Aluminum, Beryllium, and Gold. Name all three rules one must follow when writing orbital notations. HINTS: s = 1 orbital/sublevel (box), p = 3 orbitals/sublevel, d = 5 orbitals/sublevel, f = 7 orbitals/sublevel Orbital Order: 1s 2s 2p 3s 3p 4s 3d 4p 5s 4d 5p 6s 4f 5d 6p 7s 5f 6d 7p

So about your Grandma… She loves cooking and therefore Chemistry also. Given the opportunity she decided to live in a retirement community that is designed like the periodic table. You must figure our every single direction necessary to get to Grandma’s to eat her world famous cookie.

Grandma’s House…the easy route!

Going to Grandma’s for the Intermediate

Going to Grandma’s the long way!

Exit Ticket: Write the electron configuration for: Sc: S: Kr Generate a list of rules that you used in order to solve the above electron configurations.

Do Now: Choose one element with an atomic number that is less than or equal to 20 and draw its electron configuration. Choose the largest element (note: it must be larger than 20) that you believe you can correctly write the electron configuration for and do so. On a piece of notebook paper number the lines 1-54.

Info—less than or equal to 20

Info—greatest

Do Now: Review your notes for the week and be certain that you can answer all questions you created for the content.

Homework: USA Test Prep—due by Sunday Evening Mole Project—optional—if done well will earn you a “100” for a test grade Interested? Pick up packet with potential projects after school or Monday at the latest

Quick Quiz 5 questions Only need Periodic Table and writing utensil Attempt the Bonus!

Lab: 1st Complete the data sheet ( begun on your piece of notebook paper) so that it consists of the electron configuration for elements with atomic numbers 1-54 2nd Read the procedure and become e- config. geniuses!
