RULE ONE Titles of big things appear in italics or underlined. -Books -Movies -Newspapers -TV Shows -Plays
RULE TWO Titles of short things appear in quotation marks. -Short Stories -Articles -Poems -Songs
RULE THREE When you write about a title, commas and periods go inside the quotation marks. Exclamation points and question marks do not. Critics love Frost’s poem, “Birches.” Have you read Frost’s poem, “Birches”?
RULE FOUR Quotes within quotes become apostrophes RULE FOUR Quotes within quotes become apostrophes. -”Bob looked at Gary and said, ‘I am Bob,’” said Fred. -”Mom said, ‘Yeeha,’” said Dad. RULE FIVE When citing a quote, begin with the quote, include the page number, place the period outside the parentheses. “You don’t know me” (1). “Mom asked, ‘Who are you?’” (58) .
