Problem: The City Manager wants to improve moral... Pause here to get ideas

How did we get here?: We were coming off the 2008 recession- and the labor groups were feeling it at the table. Two bargaining cycles of take aways Shrinking operating budgets → layoffs Employees feeling we went from “employer of choice” to “mediocre”

ON TOP OF ALL THAT: Scandal that rocked the organization Actual headlines

Moral was anecdotally low :(

What was our vision? Practicality Inclusivity Giving latitude to have employees create it! What was our vision?

How we rolled out 22 meetings with different stakeholders Created Core CARE Team CARE Critique Team Listening to Employees vs. Telling Them!

What was important to Employees? Career Development Health and Wellness Community Engagement What was important to Employees? Opportunity. Connection. Balance Branding was important!

Results are in...

Increase in engagement in the first year of roll out. 23% Increase in engagement in the first year of roll out. Maintenance of engagement after first year; looking at 4th survey in 2019
