HIGH NORTH DIALOGUE – Arctic Transport and Infrastructure Elise Chen, Managing Director 3.April.2019

Two countries with significant coastlines Norway – one of the world’s longest China Incl. islands and fjords (bymap.org: 83,280 km) (bymap.org: approx. 14,500 km) Norges kartverk: 102,937 km

the arctic - Norway & China Norway: In the Arctic China in its Arctic Policy white paper (January 2018): "Geographically, China is a "Near- Arctic State", one of the continental States that are closes to the Arctic Circle. The natural conditions of the Arctic and their changes have a direct impact on China´s climate system and ecological environment, and, in turn, on its economic interests in agriculture, forestry, fishery, marine industry and other sectors."

There were substantial savings of time, fuel and also reduced pollution to air compared with a Suez or a Cape passage. .

NSR covers the arctic East – West route while the North – South connectivity is lacking, leading to an Arctic railway vision: THE ARCTIC CORRIDOR Connecting Europe and the Far East through the Northern Sea Route, Norway and Finland
