50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA BACKGROUND The story was written because Malawi is one of the countries affected by problems orchestrated by climate change. The story was answering Millennium Development Goal number 3 which asks countries to achieve the promotion of gender equality and women empowerment. The story was also targeting the Integration of principles of sustainable development policies and programmes -and reverse the loss of environmental resources. Once this is achieved it can also facilitate the achievement of MDG number one which is halving the proportion of people who suffer from hunger by the year 2015. 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA TARGET AUDIENCE The report was targeting the decision makers so that they should empower more people to uplift their lives instead of scrambling for the natural resources they have. The story has a great impact in changing the mindset of other villagers who due to lack of job opportunity they destroy the natural resources they have like cutting down trees aimlessly in search for income. 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA PROCESS/METHODOLOGY The data was collected through one on one interviews which were realized by travelling to the Nsanje district. There are 5 female against 3 male sources. I chose the voices because they are directly or indirectly affected by climate change and they are important in the story because most of the issues uttered are interconnected. 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA RESULTS Use one slide for each result, include examples of evidence Service delivery Women’s empowerment-The special report is one of those that has shown how women can help in transforming their families and adapt to climate change. Men for change Public participation Changes at the work place Outreach through the media Changes at household level Capacity building Changes in attitudes Changes at a policy level Any other changes 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA FEEDBACK After the report was aired Umunthu Foundation had a reaction by making a congratulatory statement and encouraged the reporter and the entire MIJ FM newsroom for coming up with such reports. The feedback were through phone calls and that prompted me too to make a follow up with the policy makers. 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA FOLLOW UP I would like to make a follow up with the policy makers e.g ministry of gender and those that are responsible for the programmes of gender and environment. 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA
