Reacting Iron and Sulphur Objectives Know what happens when metals are reacted with sulphur Carry out a procedure safely Explain reactions in terms of word equations

METAL LETMA ELEMENT TENMEEL COMPOUND MPOODUNC PERIOD RIPEDO GROUP RUGPO

When metals react with a non-metal called ________, they make compounds called __________. SULPHUR SULPHIDES + METAL SULPHIDE METAL SULPHUR

Reacting Iron and Sulphur SAFETY Wear goggles Point the tube away from you and other pupils Do not touch HOT equipment

Reacting Iron and Sulphur Test the MIXTURE with a magnet, and write down a sentence to explain what you see. Heat the tube on a tripod. Write down what you see happening. When the COMPOUND has cooled, test it with a magnet again. Write down what you see.

Write a WORD EQUATION to show the chemical reaction that has taken place in the tube. + IRON SULPHIDE IRON SULPHUR

Write word equations to show the reactions between the following elements Magnesium + Sulphur Sodium + sulphur Calcium + oxygen Aluminium + oxygen Lead + oxygen Lithium + sulphur
