Fig 1 Risk of 30 day mortality with increasing LVMI in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. An almost linear relationship was found between increasing LVMI and the risk of 30 day mortality using the smoothing technique of data points. The smoothing technique involves local least squares fitting of the data with a quadratic polynomial function.
