President’s Report School Board Vacancy High School Schedule Change Information Night – Feb. 6 Applications Due – Feb. 15 High School Schedule Change “Modified Block 7 Period Schedule with Flex Time Option” to take effect in Issaquah and Skyline High Schools beginning 2019 and Liberty High School no later than 2022. ISD School Board approved Superintendent Thiele’s recommendation at its December 12, 2018, meeting

President’s Report The approved schedule will hold all seven periods on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, with each class running 50 minutes. Tuesdays will hold first, third, fifth and seventh periods with a 35-minute flex time. Wednesdays will hold second, fourth and sixth periods with a 50-minute flex time. Below is the complete approved “Modified Block 7 Period Schedule with Flex Time Option.”

Programs Holiday Gift Barn 165 gifts were delivered to Pickering Barn on December 3 & 4 Thank you to Chair Tracie Kinsley and to all the donors who gave generously to the Holiday Gift Barn and the PCMS Angel Network.

Advocacy Focus Day – February 11, 2019 State Capitol - Olympia, WA During each year’s legislative session, Washington State PTA holds its annual Focus Day, which brings members together at the state capitol to advocate for the association’s top five issues. Advocacy Week– February 11-15, 2019 The regular legislative session begins January 14, 2019, and WSPTA has designated February 11-15 as Advocacy Week. Outreach Lunch for the Break Homework Help Opportunity Outreach Angels Mid-Winter break poses a challenge for families that rely on free or reduced-price school lunches. “Lunch for the Break” is a program designed to help fill the food gap for kids during this time. You can help by donating a box (or two, or three). Fill your own box using the standardized shopping list, purchase a pre-made box, or simply make a financial contribution to help purchase perishables. Donor drop off is on Wednesday, February 13th. Get free tutoring at King County Library Study Zone. The Study Zone is a place for K-12 students to study, do homework, and get help with their questions from volunteer tutors. We have provided clothes, gift cards for gas and groceries, and basic household items to help families get back on their feet. Parent Education National PTA Resource Find relevant and interesting articles in the National PTA’s magazine "Our Children," at http://ptaourchildren.org/ The recent article “For Diversity and Inclusivity, Internet Access is Key” spotlights the partnership between National PTA and AT&T to help close the “homework gap” and ensure Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible families in select States have the resources they need for kids to succeed in the classroom and beyond. Nominating Committee Article 5, Section 5 of the WSPTA Uniform Bylaws requires the formation of a Nominating Committee. The Committee shall submit to membership a signed, written report at least 15 days prior to the next BOD election of the name(s) of one or more candidates for each office to be filled. Qualifications for Candidates Committee shall consist of three members elected at a Membership Meeting. Members shall have been members in good standing of a local PTA for at least 30 days preceding their election. No person shall be eligible to serve more than two consecutive terms. Neither the president nor the school principal is eligible to serve.
