Year 6 Curriculum Map – Summer Term 2 Extended Curriculum & Transition to Secondary School English Art & Design Computing As readers, we are reading non-fiction texts based on Plastic Pollution and its effect on our oceans. Our reading will form the basis of our class research into the topic and inform the writing that we will complete. As writers, we will be building up writing toolkits to write a discussion text based on the use of single-use plastics in our society today. We will be using debate and research to formulate arguments for both sides. As artists, we will use a wide range of artistic techniques, including digital art. As designers, we will design and create a case for a mobile phone. As computer users, we will be using technology to advance our knowledge of coding including using ‘if’ statements and variables. We will design our own programmes using 2Code. Geography As geographers we will be studying rivers and the water cycle. We will use maps to locate world rivers and learn about the key features of them. RE In RE, we will look at whether ‘Charity can change the world?’. As part of this we will look at how different religions contribute and run charities and what they contribute to society. Maths As mathematicians, we will be applying our skills to cross curricular topics. Our main focus will be on statistics – using different ways to present data which we will gather as part of our different theme weeks. We will also be consolidating written methods for calculations and using them in the context of mathematical problem solving, number games and puzzles. French Music As linguists, we will be revising the basic vocabulary we have learned in previous years – including making introductions, greetings, numbers to 100 and following classroom instructions. As musicians, we will be looking at rhythm and understanding how to notate rhythms before composing and performing our own. Science History As historians, we will understand how our use of water has evolved over time and understand the importance it has played in different eras throughout history. We will study the life of Charles Darwin and discuss his contributions to the history of Science As scientists, we will be learning about evolution and classification. We will explain the process of evolution, begin to appreciate that variation over time can help animal to adapt to their environments and look at different ways to classify species. Prince William Award PE We are very excited to complete our work with Skill Force. PWA focuses on Personal Development, Relationships, Working Together, Community and the Environment. As athletes, we will be playing Hockey with the Sports Coach. We will look at basic skills such as: dribbling, striking and controlling the ball and the rules of the game.
