How to get curriculum students engaged in campus activities. Topic: How to get curriculum students engaged in campus activities. “Getting Our Leaders Developed”

Objectives: At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to... 1. Identify and try new approaches needed for growth of clubs and events. 2. Locate and utilize the resources that the school provides. 3. Implement and apply the tools of this workshop in the present.

What's the GOAL ? Goal: Targeting curriculum students that are not socially engaged with campus activities or clubs.

Objective One: Growth.

Identify and try new approaches needed for growth of clubs and events Objective 1 Identify NEW Approaches Identify and try new approaches needed for growth of clubs and events 4- Growth

Think outside the box Standard ways of trying to get students involved often fail to achieve the desired effects. Talk to students in your classes by getting permission prior to class from the instructor about an upcoming event or club. (Captive Audience)(3C Students) Have Meet and Greets in campus buildings by placing a table and 2 chairs with a banner on it for attention. (High traffic areas) Engage students with “contact teams” designed to target students at events on campus such as Fall Fest and Spring Fling. (Face to face, 1 on 1)

Captive audience Your Peers in each of your individual classes. Who are they??? Your Peers in each of your individual classes. What if, Club Members addressed the students of their classes for 5 minutes about the benefits of being involved with campus clubs and SGA?

HIGH TRAFFIC AREA Opportunities A hallway venue gives students the option to pass you by or get curious about whatever it is you’re offering. Having a small give away prize or snacks is a great way to get someone engaged. Most buildings on campuses have large hallways for traffic to and from classes. Setting up a table at the end of a hallway gives you access to students that do not normally visit student centers etc.

Face to Face , 1 on 1 Do not underestimate the benefits of contact teams to make face to face interaction or 1 on 1 with students coming through your events for food or just out of curiosity. A smile, handshake and acknowledgement go a very long way. Team work makes the dream work!!

Utilize Social Media

Objective Two: Resources.

Do You Know Your Resources ? Objective 2 Do You Know Your Resources ? Create a healthy, safe, and social campus that encourages student well-being and success. Programs could include resources on stress management and life balance, substance and alcohol abuse awareness, and interpersonal violence prevention. The list is limitless.

Resources Examples: Academic Support Center Career Services Communication Center Counseling Library Student Services TRIO-Student Support Services Help from Students Clubs & Organizations “The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes” - Sherlock Holmes

Locating Your Resources

Objective Three: Presented by: Ashley Thao & Mae Mcwilliams

Implement and apply the tools of this workshop in the present. Objective 3: Implement and apply the tools of this workshop in the present.

What are these tools? Knowledge of your targets. Benefits of being engaged. How to make a resume GOLD. Interaction confidence.

How can applying these tools benefit you? These tools can help gain knowledge within yourself and the community. Experiencing our workshop, you could educate others on what you’ve learned and take it to your clubs. For example: Leadership skills. Communication skills. Finance skills. Relationship building skills.

Tools learned will help with future references... Example: A student who joins a club, aligning with their career goals, can take that knowledge and expand forward.

How to make a resume G.O.L.D?
