Solomon Islands Honiara City Presentation action plan

1. Main challenges Natural Exposure Flooding ( Storm water runoff/streams/river) Coastal erosion Institutional Challenges No coordination with national Government(Ministry of Environment) Lack of Trained Planners & Expertise Weak implementation of regulation Informal settlements located within prone areas. Securing funding mostly at national level nothing is been reached local municipality

2. Long term goal for improvement Build a Resilient Town Long Term Vision Clean, Safe & Walkable Well capacitated office Well Planned infrastructure Water Management

3. Action plan Short term (2017-2018) Long term ( 2023-2027 Organizational strengthening- capacitated Existing Planning office Training for Planners/Building inspectors Secure Funding Medium Term ( 2019-2022) Revised Existing River Ordinance/Local Planning Scheme/Building by-law Formulate Potential project for climate adaptation. Long term ( 2023-2027 Establish data base system (GIS) Comments from Claudio( UN HABITANT) In the action Plan: Need to formulated responses- to execution strategies to implement the institutional capacity building. Or to identify actions addressing the cause effect to issues faced in the City Planning or Natural disaster and settlements in the city. Identify problem analysis cause effect- focus on the time to implement these projects.SMART(simple,measureable,Reliable,Timely) Good that action plan is to develop capacity of individual planners/ staffs in the Honiara City Council.

4. Means (budget, time, capacity) What would you need to make the change? Capacity of Planning Office Training on Project Management

5. Feedback on the Shelter Academy Provide feedback to the organizers and facilitators in order to make improvements in the management of similar programmes in future. What did you like best about the Academy? Everything- coaching session/fieldtrips/waternet presentations/staffs. Well organized Suggestions for improvement for the next Academy
