Babies in the colonial times Cradles in Colonial America were long and narrow, the purpose was so a child was no able to curl up and would have to stretch their legs out it would help the child to get ready to walk on it own Learning how to walk was very important to protect a child from hitting his head During meal time, the saying "Children are to be seen, not heard" was true. They were to eat as fast as possible, silently, and leave the table as soon as they were done. In some cases, children didn't even sit at the table, they stood behind the adults and food was handed back to them. http://www3.gettysburg.edu http://www3.gettysburg.edu
