Internationalization at Home

The main objective of WILLIAM is to support the advancement of “Internationalization at Home” strategies. Creating an international campus for the benefit of all students.

But why is ‘Internationalization at Home’ important?

In a world becoming exponentially more interconnected and technologically advance, the jobs of tomorrow can not be predicted…. What can be predicted, necessity for: English fluency cross cultural skills transversal skills

Study abroad = opportunity to develop cross cultural skills, transversal skills, improve English. Erasmus Impact Study on mobility in the EU (2014): Compared to students’ own qualifications before going abroad, upon their return they have increased that advantage by 42% (on average).

International experience is no longer “just for fun” (if it happens to fit into your schedule) Today, an international learning experience is CAREER DEVELOPMENT par excellence!!!

YET…

Internationalization at Home is about all students reaping the benefits of international education

Indicators to Measure Performance Preparation Workpackage: Led by Ben Gurion University and Global Impact Institute Indicators to Measure Performance Established goals and activities for IaH. Focusing on existing procedures & protocols as well as opinion, perception & attitude. Created a tool that comprised of 5 sections: Each institution will be responsible for collecting data to assess progress.

Tools for Baseline Indicators Logical Framework Matrix (LFM) IMPI (composite indicators) CHE (faculty + students) baseline SUCTI Interviews Tools for Baseline Indicators Goal and impact of what IhA is We creted a measure based on goals and activities Baseline – you will be able to use it

Logical Framework Matrix (LFM) Questions on procedures, protocols & goals to the IROs Is an IaH strategy implemented at your institution? Does your institution have procedures and protocols for international students? Each of the quantitative indicator direct to one of the three goals and actions.

IMPI Toolbox EU funded project aim to support institutions in defining indicators for measuring internationalization for self-assessment and benchmarking. Select indicators to measure existing processes and procedures from this Toolbox. Does your institution have….? - Determine baseline for IaH strategies - Identify gaps between IL and EU - Benchmarking for institutional progress.

Council of Higher Education Survey Survey of 15,000 students and ~2,000 faculty across institutions on perceptions of internationalization. Re-survey faculty and students perceptions after interventions/activity to compare progress for international vs. non-international campuses Do you agree that local students benefit from the interaction with international students in the classroom?

SUCTI survey SUCTI survey focuses on perceptions of internationalization for administrative staff. Supplement questions from the CHE survey to track progress

Interviews Qualitative interviews with various stakeholders across each institution prior and during Providing context and depth to the quantitative data.

Baseline and Tracking Mechanisms Assessment - compile quantitative indicators from the tools into a questionnaire that will be distributed to each international office of participating institutions. Benchmark: Forming a baseline in a standardized manner. Assessing Levels of Internationalization at Home via 0%-100% Index of strategies and activities of each institution. Implementation & Assessment of possible models by each institution. What are we now? Benchmark institutional progress over time What IaH strategies/policies exist and what should we focus on….? Baseline and Tracking Mechanisms
