One: Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Many: He is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

One: Mary gave birth to a Son, and he was given the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. Many: He is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

One: We light this candle tonight because we believe that Jesus, born to Mary and Joseph at Bethlehem, is the light of the world.

Many: Like all who follow Jesus, we are people of light, redeemed by the Messiah who is born this night and drawn together as a body by the One who is the Light of the World.
