Spelling Making use of North Lanarkshire’s ‘Active Literacy’ programme. At P5 stage, the children will continue to develop their phonemic awareness and understanding through a structured programme that aims to build confidence and engage the children in their learning. Involves ‘breaking down’ words into sounds and phonemes and using techniques such as Elkonin boxes and diacritical marking.

Writing Personal and imaginative writing this term, as well as work linked with Social Studies topic. Marking code: Sp – spelling P – punctuation ^ - words are missing CL – capital letter T - tense

Numeracy and Mathematics Number, money and measure Shape, position and movement Information handling

Social Studies Where possible, responsive to pupils’ interest. Topics will vary from primary to primary throughout the school. Our Topic – Medieval Scotland

Rights Respecting School Our Class Charter We chose: Article 28 – Every child has the right to an education. Article 12 – You have the right to an opinion and for it to be listened to and taken seriously.

Growth mindset Growth Mindset is a term coined by American psychologist Carol Dweck from Stanford University. Dweck promotes that a growth mindset creates motivation and productivity in all areas including in the worlds of business, education and sport. Teaching and support staff have undertaken training which will continue during this session.

HOMEWORK – STARTS 27th August Spelling Reading Maths - will vary each week depending on what is covered in class. This will be a combination of mental and written activities.
