Presentation transcript:

Page 21 Why would Clarisse seem so much older than Mildred? What do we learn about Montag through indirect characterization? “How did it start?.....it just doesn’t seem right for you somehow.” What literary device is this…”hotness and coldness, softness and hardness”? What is the significance? Why would Montag not move for a long time? Why would Mechanical Hound be capitalized?

Page 22 Literary Device: “like a great bee” significance? Why would Montag be fascinated with the beast? How can the beast be both dead and living? What is an olfactory system? Make a prediction- Why do you believe Montag now stayed upstairs most nights when this “game” went on?

Page 23 Find a simile in the first several lines. What is the significance? What does the phrase, “ancient with suspicion”? “He was trembling and his face was green-white.” What does this mean? Why would Montag react this way? Dissect the word “multifaceted.” What does the term “Phoenix” mean?

Page 24 Through indirect characterization, “All of those chemical balances…toward me” what do we learn about Montag? What trait do we learn about Montag through his response, “None that I know of”? What do you believe is hidden behind the ventilator grill? This is not the first time that this has been mentioned.

Page 25 What does this reiterate about the society, dystopia when it states, “It doesn’t think anything we don’t want it to think.” What character comes to your mind? Are you able to make a connection to The Boy in the Striped Pajamas? Why did the author use the word snorted? What does this show us about Captain Beatty? What is the literary device…”Why? You got a guilty conscience about something”? What does the last paragraph reiterate about Clarisse?

Page 26 How is Montag and Clarisse’s relationship different from other relationships in this society? Why would Montag, “always seemed shocked”? Why would his laugh sound nicer than it did? Define “antisocial” using the Dissect Method.

Page 27 Make a connection to our society today. Write a specific example in the margin. Why would Clarisse sound “so very old”? What do we learn about children Clarisse’s own age?

Page 28 What does Clarisse mean when she says, “All abstract”? Why did the author italicize, ever, All, people? Who is her uncle? Why is he remarkable?

Page 29 Literary Device: “like a bird up a tree”? Significance? Literary Device: “lawn was empty, the trees empty, the street empty”? Significance? “Dis-ease” give two meanings for this and explain how both would be accurate descriptions of Montag. “and yet” What does this imply?

Page 30 Why would Montag erect a barrier? When was a reference to cold mentioned earlier in the text? Literary Device: “as if he were a museum statute”? Why would Captain Beatty describe Montag this way? What does this mean, “These men were all mirror images of himself!”?
