Learning Target I will be able to write my own essential question by categorizing historical events.

Use the following handout to complete the work assigned

Key Vocabulary-5 Ideals Equality-the state of being equal or the same in value, ability, or rank Rights- the legal and acceptable opportunities attained by all humans Liberty- the ability to be free from external rule Opportunity- a situation or condition favorable for attainment of a goal. Democracy-A government for the people, by the people All of these ideas are outlined and included in what important American document?

Why does Reconstruction Fail? List 3 policies established during Reconstruction meant to give African Americans new and equal opportunities? Do you believe the policies established during Reconstruction ensured equality and opportunities for all? Watch the video, and list 5 clues to help you understand why Reconstruction failed.

Activity- Use the handout You will have a chance to categorize positive efforts to further the ideals of… Equality Rights Liberty Opportunity Democracy Follow the instructions and work with 1 partner from a different table.

Challenge #1 Step 1, with your partner, create a timeline on the table with the following cards I give you. Which event occurred first?

Challenge #2 Rank five key events from the timeline, 1 (the highest) to 5 (the lowest) according to how much they helped advance the five ideals listed. Equality Rights Liberty Opportunity Democracy Record at least two pieces of analysis to explain your thinking and argument.
