Understanding the Human Spirit M I N D S E T

“Set your mind on things above, Colossians 3:2, NKJ, “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Colossians 3:2, (TPT), Fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm. (VOICE), Stay focused on what’s above, not on earthly things.

Romans 8:5-6 (NKJV), For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Place oneself under a way to view life either fleshly or spiritual.  

A fleshly mindset: Makes the things which please the five senses dominate one’s values.

A fleshly mindset: Works like a radar beam directing the five senses toward things pleasing to the physical appetites.

Flesh is defined by its behavior.  Galatians 5:16-22, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:9 (TPB) The cravings of the self-life are obvious: Sexual immorality, lustful thoughts, pornography, 20 chasing after things instead of God,[d] manipulating others,[e] hatred of those who get in your way, senseless arguments, resentment when others are favored, temper tantrums, angry quarrels, only thinking of yourself, being in love with your own opinions, 21 being envious of the blessings of others, murder, uncontrolled addictions, wild parties, and all other similar behavior. Haven’t I already warned you that those who use their “freedom” for these things will not inherit the kingdom realm of God! 

Spirituality is the ability to receive from the realm of the spirit and release it beneficially into the physical material universe. What will be the outward result in my Physical material universe? 

Galatians 5:22-23, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Ephesians 4:23 (NKJV),  Be renewed in the spirit of your mind.

We can change our mindset and begin to process life through our spirit instead of through our physical senses.

Romans 8:2 (TPT), For the “law” of the Spirit of life flowing through the anointing of Jesus has liberated us from the “law” of sin and death.

Romans 8:11  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.

It is from His Holy Spirit through our human spirit that we receive supernatural energy to overcome the strong desires of our five physical senses.  

Spiritual power energizing our soul and our body will give us the ability to live the abundant life promised believers through out the New Testament writings. 

God has given everyone the power to make a decision to set ones mind on spiritual things.  And the Holy Spirit is right there to help each of us.

We too can hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying to us and we can release into our lives, the wonderful power and grace of the Living God.  

1. Soft instead of hard. 2. Learn to respond to the spiritual impressions and impulses from the Holy Spirit to my spirit.  3. Jesus said, “He who has an ear let him hear.”

 4. As I receive these, I can begin to speak them and express them in my behavior.   Receiving is the beginning point, but releasing is the goal.

Heavenly Father, I choose right now to have a spiritual mindset Heavenly Father, I choose right now to have a spiritual mindset. I reject the mindset of the flesh and I select a new set of internal values. I will no longer serve my senses, but I will allow my spirit to receive spiritual things from your Spirit. Father, teach me to receive the things of your spirit and to release them into my life, in Jesus name. Amen.
