Presentation transcript:

Josiah’s Past Hezekiah, great-grandfather, good, reformer, no idols. Manasseh, grandfather, evil, promoted idol worship profaned the temple, sacrificed sons. 2 Chron. 33:1-9. Amon, father, evil, assassinated. 2 Chron. 33:21-25.

Josiah’s Reign Age 8, became king. Age 16, sought the Lord. Age 20, purged idols. Age 26, discovered the Book of the Law. Age 39, died from a wound in battle. Reigned 31 years, 640-609 B.C.

Discovery of the Book Book of the Law discovered during temple repairs. 2 Chron. 34:14-19. Josiah knows they have not been following God’s word. 2 Chron. 34:21. Huldah foretells of punishment from God, but Josiah will be spared. 2 Chron. 34:22-28.

Follow the Book Josiah reads the book in the presence of all elders of Judah and Jerusalem and made all to follow God. 2 Chron. 34:29-33. Passover kept. 2 Chron. 35:1-19. 2 Kings 23:25. Great praise for Josiah.

Need Rediscovery Josiah was the last of the good kings who sought God. His reforms and leadership had no lasting effects on the people. Outward obedience can be seen when inward rebellion remains. His people returned to idols and away from God. We need RE-discovery of God’s book
