Reception Curriculum Newsletter Term 3 Welcome Back. We hope you all had a restful Christmas and a very happy New Year. Religious Education Our Theme is: ‘Why is church special to Christians?’ The children will be thinking about what is special about themselves, their family, their community and school. We will also be learning about Baptism. If possible, please could you bring in a baby photo of your child or item of clothing that they have grown out of. We will also need parent volunteers to join us on a short walk in the local area on Tues 15th January 11am -12 noon. Please let Miss Maier know if you are able to help. Personal and Social Development SEAL: Going for Goals! This theme gives an important opportunity for all children’s abilities, qualities and strengths to be valued. It provides opportunities for the children to reflect on themselves as individuals, particularly their strengths as learners and how they learn most effectively. Festivals: Chinese New Year Communication, Language and Literacy We will be using stories which link to children’s interests. We will encourage the children to begin to use and develop an understanding of non-fiction texts. The children will be learning about, and celebrating Chinese New Year. Understanding of the World The children have become very interested in dinosaurs. Our role play inside the classroom is a dinosaur museum full of interesting objects for the children to interact with. They will learn about the different types of dinosaurs and fossils. We will be having an Education Officer from Tunbridge Wells Museum and an archaeologist come to visit us! Please note: Class Assembly Tuesday 5th Feb 9.05am. You are warmly invited to come and watch the children share what they have learnt about Chinese New Year! Please could your child come into school that day wearing red, yellow or gold (if you have any!) clothes. They can stay in these clothes all day. POST-IT NOTES Thank you to all those who have kept up with the post-it notes. They really do help with the assessment process. There are ideas relating to the areas we would like you to focus on this term, on the back of this newsletter. Mathematics We will be focussing on number work and 3D solid shapes this term. Learning to recognise and describe them using mathematical vocabulary. Physical Development P.E. will be on a Tuesday and Thursday. The children will be learning to aim and throw with accuracy. Thank you for your continued support.
