How to Year 1

Tips for Academic Success Making the most of Medical School Q&A Overview How to Year 1 Talk Tips for Academic Success Making the most of Medical School Q&A

Tips for Academic Success Laz Ranasinghe– MedED Co-Chair

General Advice Should I/How do I make notes? There is no single ‘correct’ way of making notes Do whatever is most efficient at getting the information into your head Some people type, some annotate slides, some use others’ notes – there’s no single ‘correct’ way If you’re tired/hungover but want to be productive then do something easy When your brain is failing, give it something easy to do (e.g. endo, thorax) Tailor what you revise based on how up for it you feel Accept that you will have weaknesses Know when to move on

If you need it…ASK FOR HELP! General Advice Keep a list of all the lectures/tutorials you have to cover Keeps you aware of how much you have left to do Do NOT compare yourself to others Loads of people lie about how much they’ve done/how much they know Everyone is a snake during revision until proven otherwise Use self-tests as a LEARNING exercise Start them early – use them to learn, not just for ’exam practice’ If you need it…ASK FOR HELP!

Making the most of Medical School Daniel Huddart – MedED Co-Chair
